License Enforcement - Users With New Team Member Licenses

License Enforcement - Users With New Team Member Licenses

In an organization, most of the users may require only data or reports from business, or perform time and expenses entry, or update HR records and don’t require full capabilities of Dynamics 365.

For such additional users who are not full users of the Subscription License are licensed with ‘Dynamics 365 Team Members’. This named user subscription license enables lightweight access through designated scenarios built into Team Member experience.

In short, the Team Members subscription is a named user subscription designed for users who are not tied to a particular function, but who require basic Dynamics 365 functionality. The Team Members subscription does not provide access to model-driven custom applications and is not intended for a few listed scenarios.

The newly introduced feature of License Enforcement helps customers or users to align with the Team Member license restrictions mentioned in the above paragraph.

Users who have existing Team Member licenses purchased during or after October 2018 will be restricted to a set of designated apps as given below and hence will not be able to access these apps.

  • Customer Service Team Member
  • Sales Team Member
  • Project Resource Hub

During the early-access phase of the new Dynamics 365 Team Members license, users who have the new license will be able to use the designated Team Member apps in addition to all existing apps. However, after license enforcement is turned on with the 2020 release wave 1 starting April 1, 2020, the unentitled apps that are listed above will not be accessible by users.

Therefore, it is recommended to test Team Member scenarios and migrate any customizations to the designated apps as needed.  This feature is enabled for end-users automatically and is available since 1st April 2020. For a smooth transition, all customer organization instances that were created before April 1, 2020, have been granted an additional grace period until January 31, 2021.
